For Current CICS Holders

Advance from Specialist to Professional

You already hold CICS. The CICP upgrade moves you to the Institute's senior credential, the designation that tells employers, auditors, and boards you work at the level that leads internal-control functions.

  • You hold an active CICS and you're ready for the senior designation.
  • You lead internal-control work and want your credential to say so.
  • You're preparing for a leadership role in audit, compliance, or finance.
  • You report to executives or boards who read credentials closely.

What you get

What the upgrade changes

The Institute's senior credential

CICP demonstrates the extensive skills and knowledge required to lead internal-control functions. It sits above CICS on the Institute's credential ladder.

A title that reads as leadership

Certified Internal Control Professional after your name tells employers, auditors, and boards that you operate at the senior tier of the profession.

A direct path from CICS

Because you already hold CICS, you upgrade straight to CICP. The path was built for current holders, and your foundation credential is where it starts.

How it works

How the upgrade works

Confirm your standing

The upgrade is open to current CICS holders. CICP carries its own requirements, so review the CICP certification page or contact the Institute if you're unsure where you stand.

Complete the upgrade checkout

Purchase the upgrade through the Institute's secure online checkout. That starts your move from CICS to CICP.

Submit your supporting materials

You'll demonstrate proficiency in internal controls plus at least 5 of 7 job dimensions, provide supporting evidence of your skills, and submit a testimonial letter from a contemporary attesting to your experience.

The credential that puts you in the room with the board

CICS established that you know the Common Body of Knowledge. CICP establishes that you can lead the function. It's the Institute's senior credential, held by professionals who demonstrate the extensive skills and knowledge required to lead internal-control work. When an audit committee scans an engagement roster or a hiring panel weighs two resumes, Professional carries a different weight than Specialist. You've already done the foundation work. The upgrade path exists so current CICS holders advance directly from where they stand.

Questions

Frequently asked

Who can purchase the upgrade?
Current CICS holders. CICP carries its own experience and proficiency requirements, so review the CICP certification page or contact the Institute if you're unsure where you stand.
How does the upgrade compare to enrolling in CICP directly?
Direct CICP enrollment is $400. Because you already hold CICS, you advance through this upgrade path instead, at a reduced rate that reflects the credential you've already earned.
What will I need to submit?
You'll demonstrate proficiency in internal controls plus at least 5 of 7 job dimensions, provide supporting evidence of your skill proficiency, and submit a testimonial letter from a contemporary attesting to your experience.
How do I maintain CICP once I hold it?
CICP follows the same maintenance cycle as CICS. See the renewal page for the current requirements.
